Good Morning Music Lovers! Would you like some great new music to fill your ears with? Of course you do, why else would you be here?! Today I would like to introduce you to an up-and-coming Orange County band, Island Apollo. The band is made up of five members: Ryan Kilpatrick (Vocals & Guitar), Matty champagne (Drums), Addam Farmer (Bassist), Heath Farmer (Guitarist), and Austin Farmer (keyboardist). The band has released a new song, a follow-up to their 2015 self titled “Island Apollo” EP. At first listen, I absolutely loved “Hold It Down” and it just kept getting better with time. The mixture of the southern grunge guitar sound and crisp clear vocals gives them a sound all their own, can you dig it?!
I was lucky enough to interview the band and ask a handful of questions so we could get to know them a little better. Their answers even helped me digest their music a little differently knowing their background and musical influences. Check out the interview and their latest song “Hold It Down” below…
Today is the day everyone! Phantogram are back with new music after a year of making music and touring with Outkast’s Big Boi in their side-project Big Grams. Today the electro-pop duo released their third studio album appropriately named ‘Three’. As exciting as it is to get new music from one of our favorite bands, this album came from a sad place.
Earlier this year vocalist Sarah Barthel’s sister Becky passed away tragically and although band-mate Carter is not related to Barthel, having been friends for most of their life they both feel as though they’ve lost a sister. In interviews Sarah has said that this record “is about heartbreak” and that “the overall message is about how tragic life can be at times—how the world can bring you down… But you have to try to find the beauty in it sometimes.”. This brings to mind the theme of my favorite film ‘American Beauty’ which is that we want to be angry about the bad things that happen to us but it’s hard to stay mad when there’s so much beauty in the world. Sidenote: I will take any chance I get to talk about American Beauty (sorry not sorry). Back to Phantogram…
First of all…FINALLY! I have been waiting for this day. This Tuesday the always quirky and incredible English band Alt-J released their sophomore studio album: This Is All Yours”. As of right now the only place I have been able to stream it is on Spotify (one of my favorite music streaming services). From start to finish I was really happy with this album. I absolutely loved the singles that the band released earlier on this year (Every Other Freckle, Left Hand Free, and Hunger of the Pine). My favorite thing about these singles is how different they are from each other. I think that same concept applies to the album as a whole. Most of it is very mellow and slow, which I think is a great way for Alt-J to go, they are good at this sound in my opinion. And then there are the other tracks (mainly Every Other Freckle and Left Hand Free) that are very funky and upbeat. Personally I would’ve liked to see a few more of these kinds of tracks on the album. One question I have is..what on earth is “Nara” and how can I get there because the music that takes place there is beyond beautiful. My favorite of these “Nara” songs would be “Arrival In Nara” which kind of reminds of a mix of Sufjan Stevens and the score music from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (do you hear it too?). All in all I thought this was a great album and I don’t feel at all disappointing. Have a listen below and let me know what you think!

A few months ago as I was on the hunt for new music I came across Glass Animals, thanks to a site I follow called Pigeons and Planes (check them out HERE). Today they are streaming their debut album Zaba in it’s entirety on Spotify (below). I have waited a while to share this band with you and for that I am SO very sorry. It’s one of those instances where you find something so amazing and you just want to hold onto it and keep it for yourself for a while. Anyways it’s time now for you to become acquainted with the band that people in the music industry are calling “this years Alt-J”. I hope you love them as much as I do!!
Sidenote: Gooey is EVERYTHING.
I have had this playlist for a while on Spotify and I’ve been adding songs here and there since I made it. I really wanted to share this playlist because it’s perfect for those days when you just want to light some candles, get under the covers, make some tea, read, take a bath, or snuggle up to someone. I really love this playlist, there’s nothing better than winding down in my opinion. Here are some gifs (I can’t help myself) I put together that represent “Drifting”… Continue reading
