NYC’s Governors Ball 2017 Lineup Announced, featuring Phoenix and More…

Let’s just call today like it is, Day Two of Amazing Lineup Announcements. Today The Governors Ball Music Festival announced their 2017 lineup and you guys..it’s really good! This is really making me hopeful for continuous great lineup announcements in the future! The festival is held in Randall’s Park from June 2-4 in New York City. What is the biggest OMG HOW COULD I MISS THIS artist of the lineup you ask? Mothereffin PHOENIX!!!! Yep..Phoenix, I said it. I adore Phoenix and those lovely frenchies have been in hiding pretty much since their 2013 album Bankrupt and the tour that followed it’s release (in which I saw them three times). They recently have popped up in a few other festival lineups, Governors Ball being the first in the US. This can only mean new music is on it way, please excuse me while I scream in delight.

MyMusicRx + #Bedstock2014 = ALL THE FEELS

Today Foster the People posted a picture on their Instagram account of Mark Foster singing in bed. If that’s not already great enough, then I find out that it’s for a website called MyMusicRX.

my-music-rxMyMusicRx.org is a “music medicine” site created by the Children’s Cancer Association for kids and teens facing cancer and other serious illnesses. The site gives kids all the resources (concerts, music lessons, digital instruments, and games) they need to feel the music and feel better. I have always believed that music can be a type of medicine for people with illnesses whether it’s their emotions or health bringing them down music has a way of bringing them back up again. That healing power of music is exactly what MyMusicRx is all about. Below you can watch a touching video from the site made to give you an in-depth look into the program. In the video Chris Funk of The Decemberists and a CCA Board Member says  “one of the greatest thing about music is that it suspends reality and can remove people and therefore bring joy” which I 110% agree with. I could almost go off for hours about how amazing music is and how lucky we are that it exists, but I will do my best to contain myself ;p.

Cool right? Ok so back to Foster the People…MyMusicRx put together it’s own music festival called Bedstock.

Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea to Write a Memoir = WOO HOO!

fleabook

I love to read. Aside from YA Dystopian, Rock and Roll Autobiographies are my favorite genre to read. My favorite book I have ever read from ANY genre is “Scar Tissue” by Anthony Keidis which chronicles the insanity of the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s front man. Even if you don’t like the Red Hot Chili Peppers you will love this book! Unless sex drugs and roll bother you…if that’s the case you may not want to pick it up. Anyways the point I am getting to is Scar Tissue was filled with the most crazy stories, adventures and so much trouble that Anthony Keidis got into along with his band mates. One of which Michael Balzary aka FLEA, has recently decided to write his very own memoir which will be released via Grand Central Publishing! This means that we will get a chance to relive these adventures from a different perspective and also discover new ones. If you’ve read Scar Tissue before then you know there is a fair share of drug abuse that seemed to follow these guys around, this is something Flea will be writing about along with his experiences in philanthropy and acting as well. Scar Tissue really helped me to fall in love with RHCP’s music so much more, knowing where the music came from and what inspried it. I think this memoir will certainly fuel that flame of RHCP love I’ve got burning even more and hopefully it’ll do the same for you! Here is an excerpt from the press release regarding Flea’s memoir that he will be writing all by himself (go Flea!)… Continue reading

Zach Braff’s New Movie to Feature KICK ASS Soundtrack (not surprised at all)

When you take a look at movies like Garden State and The Last Kiss you can see that Sir Zachary Braff CLEARLY knows a thing or two about music. In the past he has featured music by The Shins (Garden State introduced so many people to them), Rufus Wainwright, Cary Brothers, Zero 7, Frou Frou, Turin Brakes, Coldplay, and so many more amazing artists!

Now that Zach has just finished writing, directing, and acting in his new film “Wish I Was Here” it sounds like he is putting together one awesome soundtrack. According to Entertainment Weekly, the new Garden State-esqu film’s soundtrack will feature new music from

Lollapalooza 2014 Headliners Include…..

Yay yay yay yay YAY! Wow sorry guys, I had to get that out of my system. If you’ve followed this blog for a bit you might have noticed I have a little thing for Lollapalooza (music festival)…and by little thing I really mean large scale obsession.

On to more exciting news, one of my favorite music sites Sound of Consequence reported today that there has been major talk surrounding the line-up for Lolla which is still pretty far off from being officially announced. The Chicago Tribune said that (not to be named) “industry sources” confirmed that  Continue reading

Your State’s Favorite Band

Yesterday a bunch of music sites I follow posted this very interesting map of the United States and the bands they love, based on the real listening behavior of actual music fans from each state recorded by Echo Nest through 432 apps and services.

artist-mapSo according to the stats, I do not belong in MI (where I’m from) or Florida (where I live now) because both states apparently love shitty music (Rick Ross and Young Jeezy).

And coincidentally my very favorite state (that I can’t wait to live in) Illinois has some seriously good taste, along with Missouri, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Minnesota who would of thought??

What is YOUR states favorite band?

Elastic Heart – SIA (ft. The Weeknd & Diplo)

Hey guys! In case you didn’t hear Itunes Radio has been streaming The Hunger Games Catching Fire soundtrack, even though technically we can’t get our hands on it until tomorrow. I immediately fell in love with this song  (Elastic Heart) the second I heard the beat. The rest of the soundtrack is equally impressive. Imagine Dragons, and Lorde both have amazing songs on it too! IMHB’s Favorit 8Track Playlists!

logo

So for a few months I have been getting most of my music from a lovely little website called 8Tracks.com. If you haven’t used it before you should definitely give it a try! I prefer it over Spotify, Pandora, and all the other music streaming sites. I like it more because instead of picking a song you already know and then getting similar songs, with 8Tracks you put in ‘tags’ like “Study” and “Indie” then you get 100’s of relaxing chill music to study or read to. Then you can put in “Indie”, “Dance”, and “Party” and get some really fun and upbeat Indie mixes! Obviously the site has more than just Indie music..but who are we kidding? Indie is all that matters! ;p.  So basically with 8Tracks you are describing how you feel or what you are doing and you get tons of playlists that apply to you, almost like a soundtrack to your life! Cool huh? Also aside from encouraging you guys to check out/use 8Tracks.com (which btw also has an app for your phone!) I also want to share with you some of my favorite mixes on the site! Check them out! Continue reading

Happy New Year Music Lovahs!

Hey everyone! So this year has been pretty awesome right?! I think so!  Lot’s of great new music was discovered, that’s always a good thing :). I have had a blast and a half going post crazy this year and I hope through some of my posts, you have been able to find some new tunes that you maybe hadn’t heard before! That is always my goal, to share what I find with you guys in hopes you will love it all like I do :)! Thank you for all the subscribing this year, that has been really really cool and more than I could’ve hoped for! I mean I essentially started this blog so I wouldn’t go post crazy on FB and take over people’s newsfeed…turns out I am still doing that since I get all my IMHB posts pushed to my FB =p! Anyways I never thought I would get many follows but it makes me super happy to know I am not the only one trolling the internet for new music!

In 2013 I resolve to go to WAY more live shows and more importantly POST about them! I went to some really great shows this year: Lollapalooza, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, and Metric but I wasn’t so great at posting about them..boo to me! Sorry! It’s kind of hard to explain the feeling you get from a really amazing live show…for me I am in aftershock once the show has ended and then I can’t remember how I felt because I was in some sort of trance..lol is that weird? Hopefully I am not the only one who gets like that! Annnnnyways, I promise to be better at posting about the live shows I go to and just in general writing more in my posts…aside from the song shares.

With that said, I hope you all have had an awesome year in 2012 and I can’t wait to spend 2013 sharing more music with you!!
