Big Guava Festival 2014

I am going to be honest, this year was the first I had ever heard of Big Guava Music Festival. When I was scrolling through my news feed and some bands that I follow had posted that they’d be playing at Big Guava this year, I decided I was going to go to the festival myself. It was a 3 day music festival (with rides, food trucks, and a beer garden!) that took place in Tampa at the Florida State Fairgrounds and the Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheater. This years artists included: Outkast, Vampire Weekend, Foster the People, MS MR, Slightley Stoopid, Tegan & Sara, Haim, Grouplove, Twenty One Pilots, and Band of Skulls and more. Some lesser known (but awesome) bands I was excited about were Bear Hands, Smallpools, Terraplane Sun, Morning Parade, and Magic Man. I was all around super impressed by the line-up, especially because it’s not too often that bands I really love, the smaller indie types, come to Florida at all, let alone all come to the same place at the same time.

I really had an amazing time at Big Guava and I am already so excited for next years installment! My favorite bands I saw there were: Outkast (too cool!), Hoodie Allen (kind of lost it), Terraplane Sun (very impressed by them), Girl Talk (PARTY!), and Foster the People (…no words for how great they were). Check out my pictures from the festival below, and I HIGHLY encourage you to go next year if you live in the area! Continue reading

No Interruption – Hoodie Allen

Hoodie Allen is back again! And if you’re likeĀ  “back again?” then you need to stop what you’re doing and read this!

Ok where were we? Oh yes..new Hoodie Allen! So since the end of the summer Mr. Allen has been cooking up his first retail EP called “All American”! This EP will drop April 10th! The first single from “All American” is “No Interruption”. The music video for the song (below) was posted to Hoodie’s YouTube account today.

I really think this song has a great sound AND a great video. I am definitely excited to hear the rest of the EP when it comes out! I hope you like it too! If you do like it, be sure to grab it from Itunes here. Hoodie Allen has made a few previous mixtapes (which are awesome) and put them online for FREE, this is the first record he has ever put on Itunes, so let’s help him out =)! And if you really like Hoodie Allen and his new EP check out his All American Tour dates here…too bad he isn’t coming to FL :/.

As always happy listening =D!

Artist to Check Out – Hoodie Allen

Ok guys, this Jewish rapper from New York, New York rocks my socks and I am hoping he will rock yours too! He is 23 and has been on the scene since 2009. He reminds me a lot of Chiddy Bang and Asher Roth..except he raps solo. From what I have heard so far I think I may like him even better. Just the fact that he remixed a very indie song (I Am Not A Robot by Marina and the Diamonds) sets him apart (Fun Fact: Marina and the Diamonds are signed under the Chop Shop Record Label created by my all time inspiration Alexandra Patsavas!). He said in an interview that “artists like Florence and The Machine, Marina & The Diamonds, Beach House and Yeasayer speak more to me than some more traditional R&B and soul acts”. How awesome! A rapper who prefers Indie Music over Rap and R&B! AND not to mention he has a song named after my favorite stoner actor, James Franco (how great is that?!?) not to be confused with my all time favorite actor Ryan Gosling (swoooooon!). Back to Hoodie Allen, how great is that name btw?!? He has one EP “The Bagels & Beats” and three mixtapes “Making Waves (2009)” “Pep Rally (2010)” and his newest “Leap Year (2011)”. So far I have listened to a little bit of “Leap Year” and most of “Pep Rally”. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think “Pep Rally” is my favorite…wanna know why?!? Because of all the indie music on it such as: the Black Keys, Death Cab (Eek!), Two Door Cinema Club, Ingrid Michaelson, and Marina & the Diamonds! You crazzzy if you don’t go listen to all of his music right this instant! (posted Pep Rally below). Also click here to head to his site.
