Last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Indie band Broken Social Scene performed their new song “Halfway Home” with Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw and Stars’ Amy Millan and Evan Cranely. “Halfway Home” is the first track from their new album which is due out before the fall. This will be their first album since 2010, I don’t know about you guys but I am SO excited! Check out the performance below..
Jk jk! I’m right here! I feel pretty bad about not posting as much as I usually do these past couple of weeks, it’s been pretty busy around these parts! I do however want to take a moment and tell you guys all about the awesome time I had in Tampa last weekend!
As you probably know..unless you don’t pay attention, Metric is my favorite band..like ever! Last weekend my awesome friend Lorrie (popdculture) flew all the way from Indiana to see Metric with me! We, as die-hard Metric fans knew we couldn’t pass up the unbelievable opportunity to run around Tampa AND get to see our favorite band in a super small and intimate venue!
So we met up on a Friday, went to dinner and then stayed in talking and drinking yummy Moscato and Redbull! Saturday (concert day!) we got up early and went to International Plaza which is this HUGE mall with all the good stores like Louis Vuitton, Tori Burch, Tiffanys, etc. That place was amazing, definitely recommend checking it out! After that we randomly decided to go to Ikea which was SO hilariously fun! After Ikea we drove all the way to the airport to eat at Carrabas…because Carrabbas is our favorite and it’s worth it duh! :p.
Finally the most exciting part of the day, we parked our car and walked right into The Ritz Ybor (no line, THANK GOODNESS!) and waited behind these double doors for them to let all of us into the main room! There was actually a really great band playing while we waited, unfortunately I have NO clue what their name was…? So they opened the doors and I grabbed Lorrie’s hand and we RAN for the front!!! We JUST made it to the perfect spot leaving just a tiny bit of space between us and the stage! We waited for a while and asked everyone around us who was opening because it wasn’t on our tickets and we had NO idea…and neither did anyone else. A band came out, totally unfamiliar, made up of 3 guys from Canada. I didn’t know what to expect seeing as how I had never heard of them before but I did know that they had to be at least pretty good (opening for Metric and all). Not to sound all..dramatic but this band literally took my breath away, I kind of didn’t know what to do with myself. They had GREAT energy, their voices weren’t like any I’d ever heard, and my favorite part about them was the beat (always the first thing I notice with any song). Ohhh each one of their songs has such a great beat! My absolute favorite was “Call Me in the Afternoon” (check out “Full Circle” also!). They were SO great and are one of those bands who sound the same, if not better live which is impressive to say the least.
OH MY GOSH! It’s finally here! If you haven’t checked out the album yet go do that RIGHT NOW! It’s below (Soft Kitten is my fave)! AHHHH I am beyond excited, and it is safe to say that Metric has topped all of their previous albums with this one. I can’t wait to see them at Lolla and then in Tampa! Yayyyyyyy! Oohhh and don’t forget to watch their music video for the album’s first single “Youth Without Youth” that was premiered today! Click here to watch.
In case you didn’t know, May 1st Metric‘s upcoming album Synthetica became available for pre-order! You can pre-order the album in several different ways, Digital, Vinyl, CD, or the coolest way: The Synthetica Stereo Box! We all know what Digital Downloads, Vinyl, and CD’s are so I am going to skip right over that to tell you about this Stereo Box (because it is juts TOO cool!). The Synthetica Stereo Box originated from a Buenos Aires artist Andres Guerberoff. Emily proposed that Andres and the band come together to create a sort of diorama box that also holds music…THUS THE SYNTHETICA STEREO BOX WAS BORN!
Inside the box there will be the Synthetica CD, a 20 pg booklet w/ mirrored mylar insert, 11x3D photographic slides (one for each song), instruction manual. The 20 booklet contains the photos from a group of architects in the 1960’s who came up with dystopian views on how the future would look, these are the photos that also inspired the whole Synthetica Album!
Only 500 have been made and EACH AND EVERY ONE will be numbered and signed by THE BAND THEMSELVES (is it getting a little bit awesome in here or is it just Metric?! lol). The second I found out about this awesome stereo box I bought one immediately, I have to asmit I am MOST excited about the autographs but how freakin’ cool is this box?
Here is a video of Emily Haines describing the Synthetica Stereo Box, and what to expect when you get yours!!
If you haven’t heard Metric’s first single of their newest album “Synthetica” (due out in June) you need to STOP what you’re doing and press PLAY! I have to say I was a little worried that I wouldn’t like the new single, only because their last album was so incredible I didn’t think they could top it. After hearing “Youth Without Youth” I feel absolutely reassured that I have nothing to worry about! If you’re a crazy Metric fan like myself, you’ve already heard this and LOVE it! And all you not huge fans of Metric, be ready to be blown away once the album comes out! I can already tell by this song that the album will NOT disappoint! I am SO excited!!!! Give the song a listen and go to ilovemetric.com for more information about “Synthetica” (apparently the band is going to reveal some surprises along the way to the release).
