Archie, Marry Me (Alvvays Cover) – Ben Gibbard

How wonderful is it that the glorious musical creature that is Benjamin Gibbard’s favorite song from 2014 is one of my too?! Even better, HE COVERED IT! I don’t think I’ve watched anything that made me as happy as this video of Ben covering “Archie, Marry Me” by Alvvays. So incredible you guys! Watch for yourself 🙂

*swoon*

Real Estate Nailed It on Letterman

I’m pleased to point out that lately most of the late night talk shows have been booking some really great indie bands. I don’t usually watch many of these performances because either the sound is off or the bands seem out of place but last nights Real Estate performance on Letterman was SO good! They performed “Talking Backwards” which is in my new music rotation at the moment and I don’t know if you’ll agree with me but Martin Courtney’s voice reminds me of Ben Gibbard’s which in my book gives the band a MILLION cool points!! ;p Also notice that beautiful seafoam green guitar, I want it!

Ohhh my goodness people! It is getting to be that time of year again, the time when our music festival hero Perry Farrell begins to share with us what amazing bands will grace our presence in what I like to call the Disneyland for music lovers..LOLLAPALOOZA! Yesterday a handful of headliners were announced and a couple of them were bands I had been seriously hoping would be there!

Album: Former Lives – Benjamin Gibbard

Well people, it looks like Christmas has come a couple of months early. Sir Benjamin Gibbard, my favorite songwriter (ever) recently released his first solo album, eight years in the making which included “three relationships, living in two different places, drinking, then not drinking …,”! Gibbs (I like to pretend if he was my bud I would call him this. lol) explained that the songs on this album (Former Lives) are all songs that he wrote for his band Death Cab for Cutie that didn’t quite fit into the context of any of their albums “I’d say the songs on this record are sort of like ‘deleted scenes’ from all the other albums we [Death Cab for Cutie] have done. These are orphan songs”. Ummm how lucky for us that we get both DCFC albums AND Benjamin Gibbard albums!

click here to listen to the album, and buy it (duh) because it’s awesome!

Happy Listening!

Death Cab for Cutie Performs at House of Blues Orlando

Last night may have been a typical Saturday night in October for you … perhaps you were at home enjoying a movie,  knocking back a few with friends, or maybe taking your dog for a walk. Last night was anything but typical when I found myself delightfully squished in the middle of a rather large crowd of Death Cab for Cutie fans at the House of Blues Orlando. I know I know, I can’t believe it either. Driving 4 hours in a torrential downpour and waiting fora quite a while for DCFC to take the stage was comparable to waiting for your sleeping family to wake up on Christmas morning so you can open your damn presents! Finally the lights went down and the opening chords of “I Will Possess Your Heart” filled the room. The whole crowd fangirled (yes that is a thing) including myself.  I was slightly surprised at how charged with energy the show was, considering the melancholy-ness  DCFC is known for.
