HAPPY SYNTHETICA RELEASE DAY!

OH MY GOSH! It’s finally here! If you haven’t checked out the album yet go do that RIGHT NOW! It’s below (Soft Kitten is my fave)! AHHHH I am beyond excited, and it is safe to say that Metric has topped all of their previous albums with this one. I can’t wait to see them at Lolla and then in Tampa! Yayyyyyyy! Oohhh and don’t forget to watch their music video for the album’s first single “Youth Without Youth” that was premiered today! Click here to watch.

Artist to Checkout: Imagine Dragons

So I have recently stumbled across this goldmine of a band! I actually found them when I was researching The Color Run and in one of their promo videos they featured Imagine Dragons‘ song “On Top of the World” and I loved it so much I had to listen to more of their music!! Oh my gosh am I glad I did!!! Imagine Dragons is a Vegas based band of 5, Dan Reynolds, D Wayne Sermon, Ben McKee, and Daniel Platzman. They have four EPs out right now titled “Imagine Dragons”, “Hell and Silence”, “It’s Time”, and my favorite “Continued Silence“.  I really like ALL of them! Although I have to admit I found that most of the tracks I fell in love with were from the “Continued Silence EP”. The best part about this band you might ask? The fact that I haven’t heard anything like it, specifically the  way that each song sounds different from the last, I think that’s a special quality to find in a band (their albums make for good car dance parties!…just sayin). I am mainly writing this review with “Continued Silence” fresh in my mind…actually playing in my ear-bud at this very second! On the band’s website “Continued Silence” is referred to as a “six song in-your-face sonic grenade that breaks musical boundaries and yet is strangely relate-able by its improbably diverse audience” and I couldn’t agree more! My two favorite tracks by this Vegas band are hard to choose, but if I had to I would pick “Radioactive” and “Demons“. I have to say this EP has some serious TV and Movie potential..come one Music Supervisors, scoop them up quick!! I just really think this band is a great find and I hope you guys like them as much as I do..I really can’t get over how great they are!! If you do, make sure to support and go buy their EP, like em on Facebook, and PLEASE listen listen listen (below)!  would love to know what you all think! Happy listening fellow music lovers!!

SYNTHETICA Album Pre-Order / US Fall Tour Pre-Sale Tickets available now!

In case you didn’t know, May 1st Metric‘s upcoming album Synthetica became available for pre-order! You can pre-order the album in several different ways, Digital, Vinyl, CD, or the coolest way: The Synthetica Stereo Box! We all know what Digital Downloads, Vinyl, and CD’s are so I am going to skip right over that to tell you about this Stereo Box (because it is juts TOO cool!). The Synthetica Stereo Box originated from a Buenos Aires artist Andres Guerberoff. Emily proposed that Andres and the band come together to create a sort of diorama box that also holds music…THUS THE SYNTHETICA STEREO BOX WAS BORN!

Inside the box there will be the Synthetica CD, a 20 pg booklet w/ mirrored mylar insert, 11x3D photographic slides (one for each song), instruction manual. The 20 booklet contains the photos from a group of architects in the 1960’s who came up with dystopian views on how the future would look, these are the photos that also inspired the whole Synthetica Album!

Only 500 have been made and EACH AND EVERY ONE will be numbered and signed by THE BAND THEMSELVES (is it getting a little bit awesome in here or is it just Metric?! lol). The second I found out about this awesome stereo box I bought one immediately, I have to asmit I am MOST excited about the autographs but how freakin’ cool is this box?

Here is a video of Emily Haines describing the Synthetica Stereo Box, and what to expect when you get yours!!

Album: Secret Rituals

Right now my most favorite album is “Secret Rituals” by The Grates (band website here). I judge an album mostly by my ability to listen to it from start to finish (doesn’t happen often). I HIGHLY recommend you listen to this whole album! From start to finish it is amazing and all the songs are a bit different from the next! The Grates are a somewhat mixture of Phantogram meets Yeah Yeah Yeahs. To listen to the whole album go here…and enjoy that eargasm! :p

Oooh and also check out “The Grates & Whyte Fang – The Version Suicides” below!

Love For: Sufjan Stevens

Sufjan Stevens is and will always be one of my top favorite artists for many reasons…for one he was born in Michigan (Twinsies :p). His name is persian for “comes with a sword” and that’s pretty badass. Also he can play all sorts of instruments! My favorite that he plays is the banjo (swoon). He also plays the guitar, piano, drums, flute, the oboe and English horn! I actually listen to his lyrics which most of the time I am a rhythm kind of person. But the main reason I love love love him is for his beautiful voice. Sufjan has made 10 albums: “A Sun Came“, “Enjoy Your Rabbit“, “Michigan”, “Seven Swans”, “Illinois“, “The Avalanche”, “Songs for Christmas“, “The BQE“, “Delighted People EP”, and “The Age of Adz”. My favorite album would have to be “Illinois” and “Michigan” is my favorite (pretty funny considering I am from Michigan and am planning to move to Chicago). Continue reading

Artist to Check Out – Hoodie Allen

Ok guys, this Jewish rapper from New York, New York rocks my socks and I am hoping he will rock yours too! He is 23 and has been on the scene since 2009. He reminds me a lot of Chiddy Bang and Asher Roth..except he raps solo. From what I have heard so far I think I may like him even better. Just the fact that he remixed a very indie song (I Am Not A Robot by Marina and the Diamonds) sets him apart (Fun Fact: Marina and the Diamonds are signed under the Chop Shop Record Label created by my all time inspiration Alexandra Patsavas!). He said in an interview that “artists like Florence and The Machine, Marina & The Diamonds, Beach House and Yeasayer speak more to me than some more traditional R&B and soul acts”. How awesome! A rapper who prefers Indie Music over Rap and R&B! AND not to mention he has a song named after my favorite stoner actor, James Franco (how great is that?!?) not to be confused with my all time favorite actor Ryan Gosling (swoooooon!). Back to Hoodie Allen, how great is that name btw?!? He has one EP “The Bagels & Beats” and three mixtapes “Making Waves (2009)” “Pep Rally (2010)” and his newest “Leap Year (2011)”. So far I have listened to a little bit of “Leap Year” and most of “Pep Rally”. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think “Pep Rally” is my favorite…wanna know why?!? Because of all the indie music on it such as: the Black Keys, Death Cab (Eek!), Two Door Cinema Club, Ingrid Michaelson, and Marina & the Diamonds! You crazzzy if you don’t go listen to all of his music right this instant! (posted Pep Rally below). Also click here to head to his site.

Oh My Goodness, I almost forgot!!!!

Yesterday Justin Bieber released his very first Christmas Album “Under the Mistletoe” (please excuse me while I scream with joy “EEEEEKKKKK!”). Yes I know this is an Indie Music blog but hey, I’ve got the fever..BIG TIME (it should be renamed the Bieber Epidemic if you ask me!). I don’t have the album yet but I have watched all the webisodes and sneak peaks I could find on YouTube.  The album’s going to feature a whole bunch of  such as: Usher, Boyz 2 Men,  Mariah Carey,  Busta Rhymes, and the Band Perry.  My favorite Christmas album ever since it came out in 2000 was always Christina Aguilera’sMy Kind of Christmas” mainly because she is the best  (in my opinion) female vocalists of my generation..regardless of some not so classy tendencies of hers. Anyways I figure this Bieber Christmas album will be my new “My Kind of Christmas” because Biebs is the equivalent to Christina in the way that he is, again in my opinion, the best male vocalist of this generation (boy’s got range!). I saw a commercial yesterday that Target is selling the album for $9.99….no idea how long that will last so go NOW and get i, I am certainly planning to!! And check out the first music video from the album called “Mistletoe” below (I bet Selena wasn’t too happy about her look-a-like in the vid!)
