Good morning fellow music lovers! Do you know that feeling when you experience something SO mind-blowing/magical and when it ends you are left in a state of shock followed by the extreme fear of not being able to explain said magic to others?! Yeah..it took me a while but I think I’m ready. Back in August I got back from my favorite city in the world, Chicago or Chi-Town as I like to call it. For the past four years, every August I travel to Chicago for Lollapalooza. This year was no different although I did decide to tack on 4 extra days before Lolla to frolic in the city. Here are some highlights from my trip!

Ohhh my goodness people! It is getting to be that time of year again, the time when our music festival hero Perry Farrell begins to share with us what amazing bands will grace our presence in what I like to call the Disneyland for music lovers..LOLLAPALOOZA! Yesterday a handful of headliners were announced and a couple of them were bands I had been seriously hoping would be there!

Where in the World is Indie Music Heartbeat?!

Jk jk! I’m right here! I feel pretty bad about not posting as much as I usually do these past couple of weeks, it’s been pretty busy around these parts! I do however want to take a moment and tell you guys all about the awesome time I had in Tampa last weekend!

As you probably know..unless you don’t pay attention, Metric is my favorite band..like ever! Last weekend my awesome friend Lorrie (popdculture) flew all the way from Indiana to see Metric with me! We, as die-hard Metric fans knew we couldn’t pass up the unbelievable opportunity to run around Tampa AND get to see our favorite band in a super small and intimate venue!

So we met up on a Friday, went to dinner and then stayed in talking and drinking yummy Moscato and Redbull! Saturday (concert day!) we got up early and went to International Plaza which is this HUGE mall with all the good stores like Louis Vuitton, Tori Burch, Tiffanys, etc. That place was amazing, definitely recommend checking it out! After that we randomly decided to go to Ikea which was SO hilariously fun! After Ikea we drove all the way to the airport to eat at Carrabas…because Carrabbas is our favorite and it’s worth it duh! :p.

Finally the most exciting part of the day, we parked our car and walked right into The Ritz Ybor (no line, THANK GOODNESS!) and waited behind these double doors for them to let all of us into the main room! There was actually a really great band playing while we waited, unfortunately I have NO clue what their name was…? So they opened the doors and I grabbed Lorrie’s hand and we RAN for the front!!! We JUST made it to the perfect spot leaving just a tiny bit of space between us and the stage! We waited for a while and asked everyone around us who was opening because it wasn’t on our tickets and we had NO idea…and neither did anyone else. A band came out, totally unfamiliar, made up of 3 guys from Canada. I didn’t know what to expect seeing as how I had never heard of them before but I did know that they had to be at least pretty good (opening for Metric and all). Not to sound all..dramatic but this band literally took my breath away, I kind of didn’t know what to do with myself. They had GREAT energy, their voices weren’t like any I’d ever heard, and my favorite part about them was the beat (always the first thing I notice with any song). Ohhh each one of their songs has such a great beat! My absolute favorite was “Call Me in the Afternoon” (check out “Full Circle” also!). They were SO great and are one of those bands who sound the same, if not better live which is impressive to say the least.

IMHB’s Music Festival Essentials

Once again it’s THAT time of year where Lollapalooza is right around the corner and as per usual I am starting to make my many lists I tend to make to get ready (what to pack, what to buy, band schedule, etc.). August 2010 was my first Lolla trip and since then I am making it a tradition to go every year, this year will be my third! Each time I attend a music festival, I learn more and more about how to be be better prepared. I thought I would get together all of the information I’ve picked up along the way and compile a list for you, if you want it, or even just for myself to look back on each year. Whether you are headed to Lolla like me, Bonnaroo, Coachella, Sasquatch or any other music festival…this list will most likely apply to you. I hope it helps you get ready for some of the greatest musical events you’ll ever experience! Without further ado (not “adieu”, I looked it up) here is list..

Nothing But Our Love – Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr

Every time I hear this song I remember wandering around Grant Park (Lollapalooza) and I came to the Google + stage early to see Lissie play. I had nooo idea who the band playing was but they were just finishing up their set and they ended with this song. Funny thing is, the night before I saw them I was hanging out with som friends listening to vinyl and they had mentioned Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr to me and my first thought was “no way I’ll like a band with that kind of name” (thinking it was country or something along those lines). Now I love the band and bought their album “It’s a Corporate World” (buy). Check them out here. And here is a picture I took of them playing in the wooded area!

Death Cab for Cutie Performs at House of Blues Orlando

Last night may have been a typical Saturday night in October for you … perhaps you were at home enjoying a movie,  knocking back a few with friends, or maybe taking your dog for a walk. Last night was anything but typical when I found myself delightfully squished in the middle of a rather large crowd of Death Cab for Cutie fans at the House of Blues Orlando. I know I know, I can’t believe it either. Driving 4 hours in a torrential downpour and waiting fora quite a while for DCFC to take the stage was comparable to waiting for your sleeping family to wake up on Christmas morning so you can open your damn presents! Finally the lights went down and the opening chords of “I Will Possess Your Heart” filled the room. The whole crowd fangirled (yes that is a thing) including myself.  I was slightly surprised at how charged with energy the show was, considering the melancholy-ness  DCFC is known for.
