Good morning fellow music lovers! Do you know that feeling when you experience something SO mind-blowing/magical and when it ends you are left in a state of shock followed by the extreme fear of not being able to explain said magic to others?! Yeah..it took me a while but I think I’m ready. Back in August I got back from my favorite city in the world, Chicago or Chi-Town as I like to call it. For the past four years, every August I travel to Chicago for Lollapalooza. This year was no different although I did decide to tack on 4 extra days before Lolla to frolic in the city. Here are some highlights from my trip!
First off, a couple years ago, my friend Anne who I met up with at Lollapalooza told me about a website called Airbnb where you can basically rent a room or an entire apt literally anywhere in the world. It ends up costing less than you’d pay to stay at a hotel and provides you with a “home away from home” vibe. When I was planning out my trip to Chicago for Lollapalooza 2013 I decided to check out Airbnb for a place to stay. Of course I could have gotten a hotel but I knew I would be gone a long time and wanted to feel as at home as I possibly could which when you travel isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I was fortunate enough to stay with a really cool couple (shout out to Matt & Randy!) in a really cute neighborhood called Andersonville. Andersoneville started out as a Swedish neighborhood and pretty soon once the local theaters are renovated it will be an up and coming music hot spot! My hosts Matt & Randy were such unique and interesting people AND they had really similar music taste…I REALLY lucked out with them! Matt & Randy’s house was beautiful and I had a blast hearing stories of how they renovated it! My favorite spot was their backyard complete with a koi pond, flowers everywhere, and chirping birds!
My experience with Airbnb was above and beyond what I expected and I recommend it to anyone no matter where you are traveling!!
Every year when I go to Chicago I get this feeling like it’s where I am supposed to be, which is why I try to go back as much as possible and plan to move there as soon as I can! Since I have never stayed or been to Andersonville before, the first day of my trip I decided to walk around and check it out. One of the days my dad and I decided to go for a bike ride to the zoo. Our hosts were sweet enough to provide us with bikes so we didn’t have to rent them, and backpacks to take all our stuff in! We rode along Lakeshore Drive which I loved. It was so beautiful! There were so many cool sculptures and tons of other bikers! We passed a few beaches, one of them for dogs. We rode past a few harbors where sail boats were bobbing in the water, it was so beautiful! Then we rode to the Lincoln Park Zoo which I haven’t been to since I was a little girl. That was a lot of fun! Most of all my favorite part about being in Chicago was being in the actual city. Hopping the CTA, shopping, walking all over, getting Starbucks way more times than I should =p.
And last but SO far from least, the entire reason I went to Chicago in the first place (drumroll please) LOLLAPALOOZA! As I’ve said before many a time, Lolla is the most magical place on Earth, Disney World for music lovers. This year was no exception. We did everything from henna tattoos and headdress making to laying in the grass to seeing how many people we could hi-five (I got up in the hundreds!). It was one of my favorite Lolla trips for sure. There were so many great bands there too. Some that we saw: Pacific Air, Phoenix ( ❤ ), Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club, Imagine Dragons, Atlas Genius, and The Postal Service (this one was especially awesome because it was their last big show as a band). I have to say that my favorite show of the whole weekend was Phoenix. Not only because they are my favorite band but it was the last show on the last day of the festival. As always they killed it and totally rocked the crowd, and it wouldn’t be a Phoenix show without Thomas Mars doing a little crowd-surfing! Another amazing thing I got to do was meet/get Phoenix’s autograph (I almost passed out). We also got Kendrick Lamar’s autograph but I didn’t know who he was lol. Every year when I get back from Lolla I find it absolutely impossible to explain how magical it is but I figured I could sum it up! If you’ve never been and you love music please try to go at some point in your life. It’s the coolest feeling to be surrounded by thousands of people who love music as much as you do, it’s a perfect fit! Oooh and here are some pictures from my trip!
