‘Pure Heroine’ Lorde’s Debut Album is Out NOW!

Lorde at a beach in Auckland, New Zealand.
If you haven’t heard of Miss Ella Yelich-O’Connor better known as Lorde then you my friend, have been living under a rock! This New Zealand born, SIXTEEN year old musical genius’ song “Royals” has broken down the walls that separate Indie music from mainstream. Her music is is not only full of rhythm but she has this voice that is not like anything you’ve heard before. Yesterday Lorde’s debut album “Pure Heroin” was released and I can honestly say I love every single song, which by the way is rare for me. All 10 of the tracks are different from the last, to say I am impressed is an understatement. The most familiar tracks would be her single “Royals” (which is already #1 on the Billboard Digital Songs chart) “Tennis Court”, and “Love Club”. Of the newer songs “Team” and “White Teethed Teens” are my favorite!
Ella, who’s been writing music since she was 13 years old, is a big fan of Rap/Hip Hop music but when asked about the current state of that genre she says she has a problem with how degrading most Rap music is right now (so true!). She also has a lot to say about the problem with fans idolizing “perfect” celebs like Taylor Swift…
Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls…there’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and i wish my favorite stars didn’t look perfect because i think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection. ts was the first person i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way. taylor swift has a very unique vision, which i admire. i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don’t! i just haven’t found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don’t.”
How impressive is this girl? She’s a musical genius AND she’s got a strong head on her shoulders. I am so happy Lorde is getting the recognition that her music clearly deserves! I will definitely be keeping an eye on this girl.

  3. That was one hell of a rock I was under! I was missing out until today. Can I catch up or has the bus left the station? Like being in the know… and ahead of the wave.
